Geddie Immigrants Arrive At Castle Garden, New York City

Before Ellis Island opened to American immigrants, the registration center for new arrivers was at the tip end of Battery Park, New York City, and was known as Castle Garden. Here in the late 19th century at least 4 presumably Scottish Geddie family members stepped off their ships and were registered. These Geddie's alter the tradition that all pre-20th century Geddie immigrants arrived in the U.S. through North Carolina, which adds a Northern context to our family history and is to date unexplored. These are the known Castle Garden Geddie records:

 GEDDIE DAVID         24   M   10 Apr 1880
GEDDIE MRS.            37    F   29 Apr 1871
GEDDIE ROBERT       2   M   29 Apr 1871
GEDDIE THOMAS     27   M   29 Apr 1871
